Description
The British Royal Navy Flight Deck Windproof Ventile Smock is the 2nd pattern issued from the 1960s to the 1990s. Used by Aircraft carrier flight deck crews, submarine personnel and watch-keepers, SBS and Royal Marine Commandos.
Made from Ventile fabric;
Silent Movement: Unlike modern nylon or laminate jackets that crinkle and rustle, Ventile is completely silent, which is why it was favoured by the SBS and Commandos for covert operations.
Longevity: Synthetic membranes eventually delaminate, crack, and peel over time. Ventile relies purely on the physical weave, meaning a 50-year-old vintage smock remains just as windproof and weather-resistant today as it was in the 1960s.
Spark Resistance: Unlike nylon, which melts immediately when exposed to heat, cotton Ventile is highly resistant to sparks, making it safer for crews working around heavy machinery or aircraft engines.
Supergrade- non issued may show signs of storage.
